Story of Gampola Railways
Gampola railway station is a famous train stop located in the main railway line from Colombo to Badulla. It is the 48th stop from Fort.
It was built by the british in 1873 as a main coffee, tea and spices loading center. The railway station had frequently gone under water during floods. The flood levels in different span of time are marked on the station walls upto date.
The railway station is located at the foothill of Ambuluwawa mountain. The view of the mountain from the station is breathtaking. The station is famous for the meeting of the Podimenikes happens at 12 noon. One coming from Colombo and the other from Badulla.
